Thanks to the generosity of viewers 15 to Life’s director and Kenneth’s lawyer were able to set up a trust fund for Kenneth Young. Ten years after filming Kenneth’s re-sentencing, he was released on July 1st 2021. Following the release of 15 to Life on PBS, director Nadine Pequeneza worked with the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth, to share Kenneth’s story with legislators tasked with rewriting sentencing law to conform with the recent U.S. Supreme Court Grahame and Miller decisions.
As of February 2023, more than half of U.S. states and the District of Columbia have banned juvenile life without parole sentences (JLWOP).
